An example PCI Express Gen4 was announce in Q4 of 2017, had a data rate of 16Gbps, This year PCIe-SIG the Standards body has come out with PCI Express Gen5 specifications, with double the data throughput compared to Gen4 i.e. 32Gbps and plans in place to go for PCIe-Gen6 with 64Gbps data rates per lane.
